How do you apply perfume/cologne?

“Great Question” (4points)

Do you apply it to your skin? Whereabouts?

Do you spray it on your clothes?

Do you spray it on your hair?

Finally, what scents do you like?

I spray it on a wrist then wipe that on my neck. These days, I’m really enjoying scents from the perfumery Etat Libre D’Orange. I’m waiting for some samples from Le Labo.

I spray perfume on my neck and back of it. I stopped spraying it on my wrist since I wash hands often. Cologne I spray a bit more liberally, sometimes on my clothes.

Just a light dab on wrists and from there a touch behind the ears. Aiming for a very delicate application. Never on my clothes or hair, and never an intent to overwhelm or compete.

My favorite fragrance is Gucci No. 3. It used to be l’Heure Bleue (Guerlain).

@mazingerz88 Do you have a scent you particularly like?

I’ve always liked “L’Air du Temps” by Nina Ricci. I usually put some on my fingers and then put it behind my ears and on my pulse point on my neck. Also, a bit on my wrists on the inside. But I can’t remember the last time I put on perfume.

I spray a little on my wrists then dab my wrist behind my ears. I used Pleasures by Este Lauder for years. Last year I had ran out and bought a new bottle. I only wear perfume to work and I started noticing that I was getting a severe headache behind my eye everyday. During the early days of Covid I was laid off for 3 weeks, so I didn’t wear any perfume and had no headaches. When I started back to work and wearing perfume again, I started getting the headaches. I stopped using it and looked up information on my brand. The information I found said they changed the formula. It didn’t smell the same to me either. I’ve stopped using perfume.

I had a friend who would spray a big cloud in the air and then walk through it nude before dressing.

I just splash it on my face, liberally. Just like aftershave. Old Spice is my go to for that kind of thing.

@Hawaii_Jake No particular brand. Whatever scent I find most pleasing at the time I needed one. Years before I finish a bottle. My last purchase was Armani Code.

Wow, I really had to go down memory lane for this one and had to look them up. I used to be a fan of perfume before I developed an allergy to strong fragrances. I get a headache if I use perfume.

I’ve had many favorites throughout the years, too many to count really, but definitely Joy by Jean Patou, Arpege by Lanvin, Opium by Yves Saint Laurent, First de Van Cleef & Arpels, Anais Anais by Cacharel, Poison by Dior, Boucheron, 212 by Carolina Herrera, N°1 by Laura Ashley, Paris by Yves Saint Laurent, Tresor from Lancome.

These days, I use body splash or body mist on the back of my neck and arms. Never on my clothes or hair. I love floral scents, like rose, jasmine & magnolia. My current scent is Amazing Grace Ballet Rose Eau de Perfum from philosophy.

I barely ever use any, but I’ve learned to walk through the mist instead of spraying it on myself. I’m really sensitive to the smell, so I prefer this method. I learned about it from Jonathan Van Ness.

Sadly, I do not. It all gives me a terrible headache. Even if I like the scent, exposure for any length of time kills my noggin.

Even if my wife puts on a tad too much, I’m all done.

As a result, I have two bottles of cologne that I received as gifts, maybe twenty+ years ago, just collecting dust.

Occasionally someone will walk by me in public and smell really good and I’ll want to give it another try, but it’s always the same headache.

I should probably toss the bottles I have.

Wrist dab, inside elbow dab, below the ear dab. Since it’s just a dab, it’s not overwhelming at all, subtle.
Yellow Diamonds, Versace has been my go to for a few years.

Spray twice into the air, then walk through it in underwear. Have been looking for a new signature scent for a year or more, not necessarily diligently. ;)

Currently using Nautica Voyage now and then. Previous favorites were Halston and Opium.

@smudges I’m having fun getting samples from some niche perfumers. I’m currently wearing a scent from Etat Libre D’Orange. Check them out.

Thanks! Will do!

@Hawaii_Jake I just ordered 12…yes, 12… samples from Etat Libre D’Orange! Can’t wait to ‘sample’ them! I’m sure I’ll find a favorite among that many.

Hahaha! I just got 2 new samples in the mail today from them. I’m wearing Tom of Finland and love it: suede, wood, grass, flowers. Very rich.

Mind you, I don’t like everything they make. I tried Attaquer le Soleil Marquis de Sade, and I thought I’d just walked through a forest fire. That’s the thing about ELDO. Many of their fragrances are love or hate.

Even that’s not completely true. I’ve sampled some that are nice, but they don’t excite me.

I absolutely love Rien Intense Incense. I really like Secretions Manifique, but many people abhor it.

Prepare to be challenged. ELDO fragrances can evoke wild reactions.

I’ve discovered a fun website for users to review, read, chat, and study perfume. Fragrantica.com. I’m really enjoying it.

I also got samples from another niche perfumerie called Le Labo. I had very high hopes, but I was very disappointed. The scents were only OK. They are outrageously expensive, and they’re just not worth it.

It’s a lot of fun playing with samples and dreaming.
