I think part of the recent gas prices going up is Presidents’ Day weekend and week. Just like Thanksgiving weekend, Memorial Day weekend, and Labor Day weekend.
The supermarkets where I live are running low or out of some items by the end of the day, but shelves used to get somewhat wiped out this time of year even before covid. The closest Publix supermarket to me supposedly was doing the most volume per square foot in the state when I moved here 6 years ago. Now, there are more supermarkets, but also more people, so it still might be.
What runs out varies. Sometimes it’s skim milk, sometimes a certain type of cheese, sometimes certain types of bread. Powerade and Gatorade zero have been running out of some flavors. Some packaged salads run out in the evening. I couldn’t get my Newman’s raspberry walnut vinaigrette for over a month. I just bought ginger dressing instead.
I usually shop at night, so I don’t always get everything on my list. I order curbside for late morning or afternoon. I get at least 85% of my list, often I get everything or just one item short.
I just buy what I find and wait for the next trip if I didn’t find something. No panic.
