Can you offer any suggestions to help my friend?

“Great Question” (5points)

My best friend’s husband passed away a month ago. She owns her own home. She doesn’t have family around and few friends. She has a lot of physical problems. She has developed both a bed bug and ant infestation. She talked to an exterminator and they said she would have to wash and bag up all her fabrics. She physically can’t do that other than one at a time and that would take forever. Are there any organizations you can think of that might have volunteers?

You can try asking a church for help or get some good friends around to help her out.

See if there is a local senior center where she lives, they mighthave leads for volunteers. Or call the local Kiwanis Club or Rotary and ask if they have any gudiance on volunteer programs

That could work @zenvelo.

If your area has Nextdoor.com networking available she could join that and ask for either volunteers or somebody she could hire to do the job.

Also AARP and Office of Seniors & Aging often have resources you can tap.
Sounds really awful for her.

If she’s really your best friend, maybe you, your friends, her other friends can do this task for her in this time of need. Why wait for a miracle to come when you can be one?

I’m sure if she could she would, @Chestnut.

A close friend of mine had them also. It is a HUGE ordeal to get rid of them. Everything had to be washed at one time or else there is no point, they would just move room to room. They had to leave all clothes out in the garage after they were washed to keep from getting reinfected. Same with bedding. Exterminator had to come several times. They were young and healthy and able to do this on their own, but said it was exhausting and they wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
I think it will take several people to help her.
I’m sorry your friend is going through this.

@Chestnut Well beyond the fact that I am still struggling alone physically to get my own stuff done while trying to find a home, bed bugs are VERY easily transferred. That is the last thing I need right now.

@everyone else….thank you, I will look into all your suggestions.

@chyna you are SO right

I agree with @janbb that NextDoor could be a good resource.

If she does that, then it would probably be a good idea to interact with prospective helpers via private message.

I am sure there will be organisations to help with this task and your first step should be to contact your local Social Services.

You are obviously very concerned about the plight of this poor lady but is it all possible that you could help her and possibly even ask your friends and neighbours to rally and help.

I am sure the lady concerned will be grateful and anyone who helps will feel a great sense of satisfaction at being able to help someone in need.

Good luck

@Poseidon I can’t even get anyone to help me with my situation. She is basically my only friend. If I could help her and rally a bunch of people I wouldn’t be asking this question on here.

We wish we could be there @anniereborn.
