“Great Question” (3points)

Naomi Judd has passed. Her daughters say she died due to her mental illness.
WTH? Tomorrow she was being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Any last goodbyes are also welcome here.

It has to be suicide as she’s spoken about in interviews, along with depression, panic attacks, significant medical issies, etc… At that time it sounded like she planned to overdose.
Very sad, I enjoyed her music.

I don’t know about Judd, but theoretically that term could be used to refer to other situations.

Eating disorders can end in death.

Yes.

Actually it can mean lots of things in terms of medical issues & mortality. Several reliable studies show that people suffering from psychiatric disorders die from a wide range of causes, at over 2 times the rate of the general population :
Premature mortality among people with severe mental illness
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0920996418301981

Causes of death included cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness, Parkinson’s disease, diabetic complications, and accidents. Basically, severe mental illness can be physically debilitating while at the same time reducing individual capacity for self-care. But suicide is always part of the risk profile.

In Naomi’s case there’s not enough info at this point to assume much. She was 76 though, and actually beat the odds for premature mortality related to clinical depression.

Accidents seem like the other big category. People may be confused, delusional, hallucinating, experiencing memory/cognition issues, etc. all of which could lead to a very dangerous/fatal situation. My hunch is suicide is the most common cause of death, though I’ve never seen data on it.

R.I.P. Naomi

Let her rest. Let the family have their personal privacy. It’s none of our business.
