I just can’t remember ever seeing one. And what is your preferred color for your bath towels and which color isn’t?

Btw, which towel brand would you recommend for good quality overall?

Thanks.

I have pink bath towels, but only because they were my moms and when she died I kept them.
My bathroom is a cream color with accents in purple so most of my towels are purple.
I get my towels at JC Penney’s.

I’ve seen plenty of pink bath towels at Target. I prefer mint green and I hate black.

I used to have pink towels. I bought new towels during the Memorial Day sale at Macy’s at the end of May. I bought purple.

Mauve back in the 80’s if you want to include that. I never owned any that color, but I definitely saw and used towels in that color.

I like white, because you can use harsher detergents and bleach if you need to and also if you use peroxide toothpaste you won’t have to worry about the towel color bleaching out in spots. I like towels that are on the thinner side and not too soft and I like a decent size that wraps around well. Too soft and they don’t absorb water well. Too thick and they don’t dry fast enough.

I like my luxury coming from my bathrobe once I’m reasonably dry from using a towel. Put on my robe, and finish drying just sitting around or while I dry my hair or make breakfast. I have robes for guests too, but half of them don’t use the robes.

A guest pointed out to me that they prefer different colored towels if they share a bathroom with other guests so they easily know which towel is theirs.

At the apartment where I am now they have Standard Textile Luxury Stripe towels, and they’re fine. They don’t feel luxurious, but the towel holds it shape well (some towels get deformed after one time through the dryer) and I like them for a standard towel. I probably wouldn’t buy the striped pattern myself, but otherwise it’s a good towel. I’m not at my house to look at the brand names of my towels there.

Yes. Depending on how broadly you judge, I own one as a hand-me-down. It’s…kind of right on the border between pink and peach.

I don’t have a preferred brand, but I do like the really soft poofy towels. I think I have some made from Egyptian Cotton that are supah nice.

I think I’d prefer white towels because they go with anything and because then as they get dirty and need to be washed or tossed, it’s more obvious. I’m not an observant person, so I’ll keep using them forever without an obvious indicator.

canidmajor's avatar

Yup, got a couple. But they’re old, and I’m doing some reorganizing and minimizing, so they are in the bag to go to the vet’s office.

I never pay attention to brands for towels, I just buy them when I need them, sorry can’t help.

smudges's avatar

I have a very old, holey pink towel.

I want to buy some new towels…what fabric are the towels that you guys like best? 100% cotton? A combo? What brand, by name, are they? Target and other stores carry lots of towel brands. If I depend upon myself, I usually end up with towels that don’t absorb well. In the kitchen they just kind of push the water around. In the bathroom they leave me damp.

@Entropy I do remember coming across Egyptian cotton ones in my browsing and I was wondering if they’re really that special. So you like them, eh?

You can get some right here

rebbel's avatar

Are you asking me if I’ve ever washed my bright white towels, only to find out after the cycles that I’d also put in that new, red, t-shirt?

jca2's avatar

@smudges: I don’t pay attention to brands. I buy more by price, or if the mood strikes me.

Towels that are new in the store are full of fabric softener, which makes them fluffy and soft, but is an illusion. When consumer magazines and other shopping sites compare towels, they launder them a million times and keep track of which ones keep their color better, which ones don’t get shabby looking, which ones don’t get holes. I don’t pay that close attention. I just use and wash and when they get old, whenever that may be, I recycle or reuse by cutting up and using for cleaning the house.

Places I’ve bought towels are TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Costco, Walmart, Macy’s, Kohls. Beautiful towels can be had for great prices at TJ Maxx and Home Goods, where they get them from department stores that are rolling over their supply. Also, check the clearance bins at Macy’s and other department stores.

Yes, I’ve seen them, and not just the ones that were washed with something red. My grandmother had some very nice ones. And I’ve seen others for sale since then, but I haven’t shopped for towels lately. I don’t have a favorite brand or color. I like green ones, and white ones, and some that are other colors, or stripes. It’s how they feel and what they do with water that matters most to me.

Let’s see . . . yep, there are plenty of pink bath towels out there for sale.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I have a pink towel, with a cat on it.
I prefer white so I can bleach them.

JLeslie's avatar

Fabric softener will prevent absorbency, @jca2 is correct about that. Very plush towels don’t absorb well either in my experience.

My favorite dish towels I buy at my supermarket, at Publix, I don’t know if the same ones are available at other stores, but I assume so. They are Ritz brand and have a plaid pattern, and there are several color choices. https://www.publix.com/pd/ritz-dish-cloths-multi-check-paprika/RIO-PCI-137986?origin=search2

Yes, sixty years ago or more, my mom had a pink tile with black accents bathroom.

Currently have maroon and dark brown towels because of grand kids, blood does show up and freak them out. Use a non-chlorine bleach and have a washing machine with Silver Ion to disinfect the items washed. The Silver stays in the cloth and continues as a disinfectant Great with cloth masks during a pandemic.

Last set was a Bed Bath abd Beyond purchase.

Thanks jellies! As usual got all the helpful info I needed.

@Entropy I just got Egyptian cotton towels and like their thickness and poofiness but they’re not as absorbent as
I thought they would be.

snowberry's avatar

If they are 100% cotton, but they are not absorbent it may be because they have been treated. Over time that treatment, whatever it is, should wear off with continued washing. Also, if you want them to be more absorbent it’s best not to use any kind of fabric softener on them.

Jeruba's avatar

Yes. Nothing unusual about them.

I don’t have much use for pink in my life. My bath towels are blue or white or blue and white.

Blackberry's avatar

Yea…it’s called probably 50% of every women’s household.

mazingerz88's avatar

@Jeruba Same here. Always either light-blue or white.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@mazingerz88 Do not use softener sheets in the dryer with towels or liquid softener in the washer, it coats the towels so they can’t absorb.

SnipSnip's avatar

Of course. I have all white towels though.

Jeruba's avatar

@Blackberry, not mine. I dislike pink and always have. Don’t wear it, don’t dry off with it, don’t look at it in my home decor.

smudges's avatar

Thank you jellies!

btw maybe it depends on the towels, but I’ve always bleached colored towels and have never had blotching or fading.

I don’t use fabric softener or dryer sheets on anything. They’re a gross product that coats everything you wash or dry. I learned the hard way with silk shirts – left them with dark spots after a couple washes, like they were oily.

@JLeslie, I prefer thinner towels, too. They seem to absorb better than fluffy ones. The best towel I’ve had was a Ralph Lauren towel I inherited from the humane society. Lasted forever, dried well, the loops didn’t snag and get pulled, and it never faded.

@Blackberry, that’s really sexist. Like 50% of men grab their crotches in public or spit.

My bath towel is pink.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

Decades ago, pink-and-seafoam-green bathrooms were popular, complete with matching towels. Some of those bathrooms still exist, and they haven’t aged well.

Then the 1980s came along, with pink-and-grey all the rage. Again, that combination can appear dated.

This is why I stop reading or listening to decorating tips that contain the words “hot,” “trend” and “trendy.” The advice will become passe within a few years.

anniereborn's avatar

Yep, I used to have some pink ones. Now my bathroom coloring is light yellow and cobalt blue. But I also have towels in lilac and peach. I guess I am going through a pastel phase. Which is very odd for me.

mazingerz88's avatar

Come to think if it, I haven’t noticed any orange bath towels either.

smudges's avatar

@mazingerz88 Yeah, that sounds pretty ugly! LOL

smudges's avatar

^^yeah, like I said, ugly. But…each to their own! I guess there’s just about every color.

mazingerz88's avatar

There, just bought a yellow towel and one with a color they labeled “light sky.”

Would have bought an orange and pink ones but they didn’t have the type of pink and orange color that I have in mind.

jca2's avatar

I think orange towels would go great in a mid-century modern house. Hence the need for ornage towels. Pink, too.

raum's avatar

Our bath towels are mostly white, grey, blue or green for adults.

The kids have more colorful towels. Orange (with polka dots), greens, blues, purples and pinks.

Don’t think we have any red, yellow, brown or black towels.

Usually get them from Marshall’s, TJ Maxx or Home Goods. 100% cotton.
