Does cole slaw have any nutritional value?

“Great Question” (3points)

I don’t eat it a lot but I like the way one diner makes it so I get it instead of a veg when I am getting take out from them. Just wondering if it fills the bill nutritionally as a veg?

Everything including dirt has nutritional value. I love cole slaw. Both mayo or vinegar versions. It adds so much to other food flavors. I think its more a bio gut food.

It all depends on the recipe.
Here is a mayo one:

Fiber is good. (How much depends on the serving size.)

Yes! Well, better than lettuce anyway. Cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable and they’re among the most nutritious foods you can eat. Broccoli is especially rewarding because it takes up little space, matures quickly and can be harvested multiple times.

The cruciferous family of vegetables have generated a lot of interest in the health world due to their cancer fighting compounds. I couldn’t find a reference, but they’re also great for the heart!

Instead of salad, I buy those packages of cole slaw in the refrigerated section, then top a serving with any kind of salad dressing that I like. It gives me more good stuff than lettuce and is good and crunchy.

It’s cabbage, so of course. As for other ingredients some have a lite dressing, sometimes it has milk and sugar, or some of it is laden heavily in mayonnaise. I do not touch it but I make it because my family likes it. I make it with only cabbage, shredded carrot, chipped dill pickles, a little vinegar and a little mayo. People always like it. I am not one of them. I love cabbage…..cooked.

My cole slaw is simply shredded head of cabbage and a tablespoon of mayo, nothing more. But it has all the advantages of uncooked cabbage, so all the vitamins and plenty of fiber!

It’ll leave you clean as a whistle!

I love the one from the diner, which I think of as fiber because it’s roughage, cabbage but it’s high in calories. Best in small quantities (like they give at the diner, a little quarter cup serving).

@jca2 Yeah, I’m not usually a cole slw fan but this diner’s one is so crisp and tasty. I get a hot roast beef sandwich to go sometimes as a comfort food meal with cole slaw and mashed potatoes and the amount they give me lasts for three dinners.

This might be helpful.

I’m a big fan of cabbage. I don’t understand why lettuce is popular, when it’s almost a nutritional ghost. I use cabbage and spinach instead,
