How can you eat a whole lobster?

“Great Question” (4points)

Those things look so gross, like a giant bug on your plate. All those legs and claws, creepy pincers and eyes and antennae. Yucky mushy orange and green gunk inside… I’m getting queasy.

Order a grilled cheese if you don’t like lobster !

I love them and crabs, oysters, clams . . . and escargot (snails).

Neber tried. Don’t care for lobster.

My wife loves it.
I like lobster, but usually it’s overcooked. (When it is, it’s rubbery.)
One of my very favorite meals is lobster bisque and toasted cheese sandwiches.

They shouldn’t feed you a lobster with all the eyeballs..

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

It’s not the lobster that you should worry about, but the saturated fats in the butter.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Butter is soooo good!!!

I love lobster but it’s a lot of work to eat it, and it’s messy (hence the bib they give you). If I’m in a place where they have seafood for a reasonable price, it’s a rare treat.

Lobster tails I might buy now and then from the supermarket. They’re about 10 dollars each, and give you about 5 bites, so to me that’s a little high priced but again, a rare treat.

Dutchess_III's avatar

And worth the butter!

Cooked lobster tail.

No eyes. No legs.

Well, I wouldn’t eat the shell, eyeballs, or brains, but the meaty part is OK. I don’t eat them now because they’re way too expensive; would rather enjoy a good, juicy cheeseburger over a good, juicy lobster.

I’ve never been served a whole lobster. Normally, it’s just the tail, so NO lobster looking back at me because there is NO head, & NO legs so it can’t run off. It’s just pure lobster meat & it’s delicious & YES, I can eat the whole thing!!!

Lobsters are over rated and over priced. They really aren’t very good after the novelty of eating them wears off.
I’ve eaten lobsters at fancy restaurants and bought live east coast lobsters at a market and cooked them. I’d rather have a bowl of noodles.

Eating crab was awesome the first time but I don’t care for it anymore.

Living on the East Coast and vacationing in Maine, I’ve had lobster several times and enjoy it a lot. A friend taught me the technique of eating one years ago. I enjoy it as an occasional treat and like lobster rolls as well. The meat is very fresh and sweet and dipped in melted butter and lemon, it is quite delicious.

On the other hand, a hunk of beef increasingly turns my stomach at the thought of eating cow but I still occasionally have a burger or steak.

I have when I was a kid. I’ve developed an allergy to shellfish (feels like I’m being stabbed with an ice-pick in the gut) at some point and can’t do them any more. A fun point of fact is that lobsters were considered “poor man’s food” way back in the day.

Dig_Dug's avatar

@gorillapawsA fun point of fact is that lobsters were considered “poor man’s food” way back in the day.” I can see why. They are so gross. Someone made me try a piece of lobster tail once. “Oh try it, it’s great!” So I hesitantly did. I even drowned it in the butter, yuck! Sweet is right. Might as well pour sugar on a hamburger. :(

ragingloli's avatar

You can not, as their exoskeleton is quite inedible.

kritiper's avatar

The same way I would eat crab: With needle nose pliers.

jca2's avatar

It’s a lot of poking and prodding and juices dripping all over your hands.

What’s the difference between a pile of lobsters, and a pile of dead babies?
I don’t eat lobsters….

Dutchess_III's avatar

Not as bad as eating crab @jca2!

^It’s all in the sauce, really…

One part at a time. (ba dum tissss….)

I live in Maryland, so I’m more of a crab eater than a lobster eater. I have eaten lobster, but I find it MUCH less tasty than a good steamed crab with Old Bay. What can I say, I’m a product of my environment.

Per crab, what you lean pretty early is that you DON’T eat the green gunk or the lungs. I mean, you CAN. It won’t kill you immediately, but you shouldn’t, especially not in volume. Crabs are the trash cans of the sea. Eating their stomach contacts means you’re ingesting alot of crap and have a good chance of getting sick off of it.

But you learn how to eat around that stuff. I can get rather alot of meat out of a crab because I got good at it.

Dutchess_III's avatar

You only eat the legs and claws @ Entropy.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Depends on the crab….

OMG, I am in Maine almost every other month and most of August. How can you NOT!
I go to the dock when the boats come in, pick my dinner out. Go to my property on the water, boil salt water and seaweed, drop them in. NOM, NOM, NOM

janbb's avatar

@Forever_Free When can I show up? Nom Nom!

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’m there!!

Forever_Free's avatar

@janbb August is the perfect month of the year in Penobscot Bay.

Dig_Dug's avatar

^^ Perfect month for a LOT of things!! ;)

Forever_Free's avatar

@Dig_Dug party on the beach!!!!

Dig_Dug's avatar

@Forever_Free Sure, but no lobby for me! How about scallops?

Forever_Free's avatar

^^ bring your muck boots and we can go clam digging and then free dive for scallops. I know the perfect spots and the laws for how much I can harvest as a daily self take.
And yes, It’s Maine blueberry season then too.
I can taste it now!

MrGrimm888's avatar

^Is there a Great White petting zoo in that area, or do you just pet those you see free diving?
They can taste you now!

RocketGuy's avatar

With the big ones, there is edible meat in the legs and tail fins, in addition to the claws. Kind of fun to eat if you have the right tools. If not, you risk getting cut by the sharp edges of broken shell. I don’t eat the mushy brains, liver, or eggs though.

Forever_Free's avatar

@MrGrimm888 Yes, The Great Whites have made their presence known in the area. We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

MrGrimm888's avatar

^I do a lot of recreational activities in and around the water. I’m quite capable in most situations. However. I lose my shit (literally,) around sharks bigger than my arm… Unless I’m on shore.

Dig_Dug's avatar

^ I caught a sand shark it was 20 inches long from a simple little rod and cheap reel. Off a pier at North Carolina Beach. I couldn’t believe it, I put it back of course. No eating THAT thing. lol

MrGrimm888's avatar

I actually love eating shark. As long as it isn’t an endangered species, and doesn’t violate DNR rules.
I only eat the smaller ones. And yes. It’s quite easy to catch them. And yes. I take some form of pleasure from eating something that may have tried to eat me. Fuck sharks…

Dig_Dug's avatar

@MrGrimm888 I know this has nothing to do with anything here, but I just read your TS rant (lol) sorry. Anyway, I have to ask, what’s your take on Lady Gaga? I do love her and know she has many talents, real talents. You can pm me if you want to.
