I haven’t seen “Everything Everywhere All at Once” or “All’s Quiet on the Western Front” but I was happy with the winners and their speeches. They were so joyful. I really liked “Banshees” but there was tough competition. I’m not into sci fi so I probably won’t see “Everything” but I will try to see “The Whale” and “All’s Quiet.” I also want to try to see some of the other movies like “EO” about the donkey (Polish short), and the one about elephants, and the James Mackesy animated movie.

The Original Song winner was a disappointment to me, since it wasn’t a song as mush as it was a dance. ( I am a huge Lady Gaga fan.)

I don’t think “Avatar:The Way of Water” deserved best visual effects. It should have been an animation nominee.

Overall, though, I didn’t have any big complaints. I watched “Everything Everywhere All at One” while on a long plane flight last fall and was not impressed. I need to watch it again.

I’m seldom invested in any of the new movies, so I stopped paying attention to the Oscars about a decade ago. I was happy for Brandon Frasier as I loved him in his younger days!!! I haven’t watched “The Whale” yet, so I don’t know if he earned it or if it was a popularity thing. I don’t have time to watch a lot of movies…sometime during this year I will finally work each movie into my entertainment process!!!

I saw a grand total of one movie in 2022 (Top Gun) so the awards were meaningless to me. But the presentations, particularly singing Happy Birthday – were cool.

Stopped watching the Oscars after they raised the number of Best Picture nominees to 8 or 10 I think. But happy to find out here in Fluther that Fraser won. Will see the movie on TV once Amazon lowers the rent fee.

No idea Banshees was nominated but glad it was since I happened to have watched it and do feel it deserved it. Top Gun as Best Picture nominee…these desperate moves by the Oscars to stay “relevant” is what drove me to stop watching in the first place.

I’ve seen most of the movies nominated and was very happy with the results. I loved Everything – apart from all the razzle dazzle of the muti-verse which I just went with, there was a lot of humor in and the moving thing for me was the mother doing everything she could to reclaim her relationship with her daughter. It was a great night for Asian and Indian filmmakers and actors although I wish more Blacks had been represented. Still, a really great night.

And although I haven’t seen The Whale, I’m glad Fraser won.

I was fine with all of it except Angela Basset not winning Best Supporting Actress.

I love Jamie Lee Curtis, but she wasn’t even close IMHO.

I also thought Jimmy Kimmel’s routine was funny and touched on controversial topics (like the Chris Rock slap) while keeping it light.

I like EEAAO. I liked The Fabelmans better.

I thought Banshees might have done better; I liked that film. I also saw “Everything Everywhere All at Once” but it was a bit hectic for me. I may try to watch it again. I don’t know if I could bring myself to watch “All Quiet on the Western Front”. I read it when I was at school and it was quite harrowing.
I was pleased to see Jamie Lee Curtis win an award after all those years.

@flutherother I liked Banshees a lot but I thought the extremity of the self-mutilation weakened it greatly.

Banshees was a gorgeous film that I hated passionately. I simply hated the storyline.

I really liked Banshees but I felt that the cutting off the finger stuff made it unrealistic.

I also really liked The Fabelmans and even though Steven Spielberg has won so much in the past, I would have liked it if Michelle Williams won for something. Cate Blanchett was terrific in Tar. I had a hard time choosing this year because I liked a lot of the actors and actresses. Good thing it wasn’t up to me. :)

Very happy. I am glad for those that won, and glad for some crap that didn’t win.

I did not care for Top Gun 2, either. I disliked it so much, I made my own re-edit of it.

I also have it on good authority, that “Devotion”, also from 2022, is the much better fighter airplane movie.

Everything Everywhere All At Once was about the worst movie I’ve ever seen, right up there with Sideways and The Accidental Tourist. Pretty much given up on movies at this point. New movies, anyway.

@janbb The self-mutilation was shocking but I felt it was justified given the point it was making. It was an act that lingers unpleasantly in the mind, I’ll grant you that.

I don’t really watch the Oscars. Maybe some highlights here and there.

But I love love loved Everything Everywhere All At Once. I don’t remember the last time I loved a movie so much.

I tried watching that one, but something about it was so off putting to me, I had to shut it off about an hour in.

@ragingloli I watched most of it but also was put off somewhat by it. It was brilliantly made though.

I think my favorite part of the Oscar ceremony was when they brought out the mini-donkey Jennie.

@ragingloli Guillermo del Toro is very hit and miss with me, so I didn’t watch it.

@jca2 I watched the Elephant Whisperers last night on Netflix. It’s only 40 minutes long but it was really good!

I watched the Oscars this year and it was the first time in a number of years that I was motivated to do so. I hadn’t seen a lot of the movies, but I was definitely rooting for Brendan Fraser to win so I was so happy when he did!

I do like watching them because it often gives me ideas of things I would like to watch that I wouldn’t necessarily be exposed to otherwise, especially some of the documentaries and short films.

And yes, I must confess that I also wanted to watch because Pedro Pascal was presenting and I’ve become a big fan of his through the Mandalorian and The Last of Us.

I feel like I should watch the “Everything Everywhere…” movie because it won so many awards, but every time they showed a clip from it at the Oscars, I just found it off-putting. In reading what other people wrote on here, I’m even more convinced that I won’t like it.

I actually was moved to tears three or four times by some of the speeches. I figured Brendan Fraser’s speech, if he won, was going to be a bit of a tearjerker, but I was also really touched by some of the other lesser known people that won, or better known people who won for the first time ever.

And I really liked Jimmy Kimmel as host. He does a really good job!

@LifeQuestioner I loved EEAAO—it’s a brilliant film. Others hated it. It’s one of those movies that if you watch, you need to just get washed away in its chaos and frenzy and trust the directors to bring you home in the end, which they do beautifully.

That said, The Fabelmans deserved the Best Oscar as that is a fucking masterpiece.

Just saw The Whale last night. Brendan was superb.
