“Great Question” (2points)

This is a variation of a question I’ve asked here often, I think it’s fun to imagine different actors in certain roles while watching a movie.

I enjoy the 1966 Batman movie a lot, but I’ve always thought a serious Batman film would have been amazing with this cast:

Director: Jules Dassin

Steve McQueen – Batman
Ryan O’Neal – Robin
Audrey Hepburn – Catwoman
Alec Guinness – Alfred
John Cassavetes – The Joker
George Kennedy – The Penguin
Richard Widmark – The Riddler
Lee Marvin – Commissioner Gordon

What about you? And do you think this version of Batman would have been any good?

The 1966 Batman was a comic strip; it doesn’t merit a response to your because Steve McQueen could not play a comedy.

The biggest recasting I would make is replacing Fred MacMurray in Double Indemnity with Humphrey Bogart or Robert Mitchum.

I agree, the1966 Batman was basically a parody. Even in the 60’s, the fans of the comics thought the show and film was way too silly. The comics weren’t that comedic and they were pretty dark. So with the actors I’ve chosen, I’m imagining a more serious Batman movie in line with the source material.

Also, Steve McQueen has a great deadpan quality to him, he has some funny scenes in The Great Escape.

How about John Wayne and Iron Eyes Cody for Lone Ranger? I always thought they should be more tough, even as a kid.

Not recasting the entire film, but recasting the Tommy Lee Jones role in JFK.
Clay Shaw was known as a mans man. He was tough, and yet very well mannered. He was calculating, duplicitous, and viscious. He was former CIA, and helped in the assassination of Kennedy. He also was a closeted homosexual.
Who could play that better than Raymond Burr?
Jones practically flamed his performance. That was never Shaw.

Given how much they had to pay Alec Guinness to do Star Wars Im not sure that a Batman production could have afforded him no matter how good he would have been.

Not sure if this is classic, but recast DiCaprio or Kate in Titanic. They made no sense to me as a couple on screen. Visually, she appeared very large and he meek. I know I am using the stereotype of a man needing to be taller and broader than a woman, but they appeared out of balance to me. Not sure who I would pick to replace them or replace one of them, probably replace DiCaprio.

@JLeslie 100% agree! Matthew McConaughey almost got the role.

I think that The Wizard of Oz would have been interesting with Ethel Merman instead of Judy Garland, and perhaps Orson Welles as the Wizzard.

I would be interested in watching Cary Grant’s role in An Affair to Remember played by another actor. Though no idea who.

Speaking of 1966 Batman and Robin, I have a collectible Batmobile in die-cast which comes with Batman and Robin
models also in die-cast. One of my favorite pieces in my collection.
