What is your truly offensive opinion?

“Great Question” (31points)

Probably we all have an opinion or two which we keep to ourselves, because we know it offends our friends and family.

What is yours?

For starters, of course, I have to give one. So…

I think religion is childish superstition.

I think many girls are stupid. (not because they’re girls)

For a long time, after 9/11, I had racist feelings towards Muslims. It took me a while to realise that the terrorists were the minority and not the majority of the Muslim community.

Mamradpivo's avatar

That most individuals are actually stupid.

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

There are other reasons for the decline in moral and family values, the sharp rise in divorce rates, and the increase in juvenile delinquecy, but feminism and liberalism have had primary roles in their genesis and perpetuation.

Ben_Dover's avatar

None of my opinions are truly offensive. I love everyone!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

That most of the right wing conservative Republicans are too stupid to find their own ass with both hands and a flashlight. (But not most of the ones on here)

jaytkay's avatar

I forgot to say: Do Not Question or Criticize Anybody’s Offensive Opinion!!

This is MY question and I get to set the rules!!

Michael_Huntington's avatar

I think The Beatles are overrated and I see nothing wrong with Varg burning down the churches in Norway. I don’t condone it, but I don’t condemn it either.

troubleinharlem's avatar

That people who believe that Obama is a Muslim need to be taken somewhere far away. 56% of Republicans apparently believe that he’s trying to spread Sharia… seriously? That’s just ridiculous.

jaytkay's avatar

OMG, this is fun!

Bluefreedom's avatar

I am of the opinion that women are worse drivers than men.

Okay ladies, you can start hating now.

poisonedantidote's avatar

mine contains a few different elements, but i see them as part of the same overal philisophy.

1— we place too much value on the lives of individuals and the life in general.

2— we don’t need less violence in the world, we need the violence there is to be more organized and carried out in cold blood for more logical reasons.

3— we save far too many lives.

Ben_Dover's avatar

@Bluefreedom And Oriental drivers are worse than women drivers.

apologies to Mr Shiny Shoes

troubleinharlem's avatar

@poisonedantidote : Okay, I’m just insanely curious. Why do you think that we put too much value in lives?

@Ben_Dover. I agree with that. I was stationed in South Korea for 18 months and the drivers there are frightening.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

(I forgot the humor mark) I have the opinion most women are lousy drivers and even worse passengers. You’d probably be surprised that my s/o thinks I drive like a maniac.

Ron_C's avatar

@faye good one, I forgot about that.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Do you think many men are stupid too, or just women?

Michael_Huntington's avatar

@Ben_Dover @Bluefreedom
I also agree. When I was at Beijing, I was afraid that our driver would either crash or run over someone. Also, this is an Asian person speaking

That gay should have remained a word meaning happy, and not been used to label homosexuals.

TexasDude's avatar

Rapists should be shot upon conviction, or better yet, whacked with a shovel, because ammo ain’t cheap anymore. Several of my close female friends have been raped and I have zero fucking tolerance for anyone who would do that to someone under any circumstances.

I also have a tendency to believe that most people in my age range are morons, overly naive, useless, and their poetry sucks.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard What’s your age range?

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

That Led Zeppelin sucks.

chyna's avatar

I think more male drivers talk on their cell phones than female, therefore making them more at risk.

muppetish's avatar

If you’re against same-sex marriage, it’s going to take a damn good argument to convince me that you are not homophobic prejudiced.

I don’t think any of my opinions are offensive. This is the closest I could come up with.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Re: The Oriental drivers. I went to college with a South Korean student. He would drive while he turned around to talk to the passengers in the back seat and not just for a second. lol at that memory.

troubleinharlem's avatar

@muppetish : wait… so, if someone doesn’t agree with same-sex marriage, it makes them homophobic now? because I’m not afraid of gay people… I think they’re nice.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@papayalily Been sitting here trying to figure this out – Generally speaking, I connect better (on an intellectual level) with people that identify as men – I understand that, because of socialization, men are encouraged to, at the very least, pursue some knowledge..sadly, because many girls are encouraged to instead spend countless hours on mani/pedis, shopping, make up and wondering about men…I can’t connect at all to the vapidity…I think many girls hide their intelligence and I’ve got no time to waste on people like that… No, men can be just as stupid but generally I get angrier when girls are acting in a stupid way because, given that there is no equality between the sexes, they’re doing more in the long run to hurt themselves than men who act in a stupid way.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Wow, that was a really well thought-out clarification…

tinyfaery's avatar

We all deserve to die in a bomb blast or other act of terrorism for our continued participation in the cultural institutions and practices that contribute to the suffering of other people, animals and the destruction of our planet; myself included.

I thought we weren’t supposed to criticize. I have no interest in defending my “offensive” opinion.

muppetish's avatar

@troubleinharlem I admit using the term “homophobia” was a bit misleading. Not necessarily in fear of, but prejudice without justifiable reason.

troubleinharlem's avatar

@tinyfaery : I just wanted clarification… sorry if it sounded like accusation or something.

@muppetish: gotcha. that makes more sense. (:

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I have the opinion rapist and pedophiles, if convicted I guess, should be taken into a building. have their penis nailed to the wall, handed a knife and then set the building on fire. And, all the doors are locked without their knowledge so they can’t escape anyway.

TexasDude's avatar

@papayalily, I’m 20. Most people that I know between the ages of 18 and 25 are incredibly stupid and don’t seem to have a clue how the real world actually works.

Some other “offensive” opinions of mine are that Harry Potter is boring, the Beatles sucked, most little kids are neurotic pussies because of obsessive helicopter parents, and that Che Guevara and Chairman Mao do not belong on t-shirts.

Ben_Dover's avatar

Many queer people are closet heterophobiacs.

TexasDude's avatar

this is a fantastic question, by the way.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Do you mind if I ask for an example of how the real world works that kids don’t get?

chyna's avatar

People that are cruel to animals need to be handed a jail sentence, and not just a slap on the wrist and a fine. At least 5 years.

TexasDude's avatar

@papayalily, as an example, my history professor recently asked my class what the primary purpose of banks are. Everyone had a look of pure confusion on their face. I raised my hand and said that, aside from provide securing storage for savings, banks provide investment capital in the form of loans to help people start and run businesses, or to help people acquire things they couldn’t otherwise afford. Two kids didn’t know what mortgages are, two others thought that the government gives you money when you fill out a “business application” whatever in the hell that is, and the rest looked completely dumbfounded. I have more examples, if that isn’t sufficient.

Pied_Pfeffer's avatar

That tuna fish salad should be made with mustard instead of mayonnaise. I’ve gotten more abuse from people about that than any other belief that I strongly support.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard None needed, that was a great example.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer I’ve never tried that. What mustard? Any other ingredients I should make sure to include?

TexasDude's avatar

@papayalily, alright then, I’ve met people my age who didn’t know we were attacked at Pearl Harbor, who thought that 9/11 was an industrial accident, who thought that cash registers are illegal to own, and who “didn’t understand why Hitler was so mean to the Jews.” I know these are more like examples of crude ignorance, as opposed to ignorance of “how the world works” as I said, but I think they fit in the same category.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

TexasDude's avatar

@papayalily, oops, I thought you said “more” needed. My bad.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Oh, wow, so you go to school with my step-sisters. Awesome.

poisonedantidote's avatar

@troubleinharlem

I should really write a well thought out paper on this, because by just typing it out now I’ll probably end up digging my self a hole. but yea, it’s basically the idea that death is not the worse thing that can happen to you, That some times we should favor our own death or the death of others over the alternatives.

For example, if a prisoner has tried to kill him self 3 or 4 times, it would probably be better just to let him rather than waste money on putting him on 24 hour suicide watch. specially if his crimes are of a certain nature.

Another example, I don’t think there would be anything wrong with sending explorers to mars or some other planet knowing fully well that they are not coming back. (personally I’d jump at the chance)

It’s quite a complex issue, with a lot of grey areas. it touches on things like euthanasia, the death penalty, and other topics. to a certain extent, I see the unconditional protection of peoples right to live as kind of selfish.

I could say a lot more, and it would probably touch on almost every aspect of day to day life, but it was hard enough to type what I have typed so far, so will refrain from typing any more until a later date when I have had time to give it all more thought. at the moment this is still what I would call a “hmmm” philosophy, as opposed to a mature philosophy that can be expressed verbaly. a lot of the ideas surrounding it only exist as wordless thoughts in my mind, I still need to spend time on finding the words.

EDIT: a side thought…

- A human being is a small insignifican thing, they are all more or less the same, not too smart, and they only live about 100 years anyway. the human race however is everything, it is unique, clever, and has the potential to last forever.

SuperMouse's avatar

I admit it, I tend to agree with @Mamradpivo, in thinking the vast majority of people are just not very bright – or at least are severely lacking in common sense. But I am a cynic at heart so I tend to dislike most people. Also, while I think animals are cute and cuddly and all, I am perfectly content not to have any myself. Yes, yes I do own Jack the Pug, but he is the kids’ dog more than he is mine.

I hope that the next time some idiotically irresponsible pet napper releases a gator into an urban lake that the gator eludes capture for 20 years and grows to be 20 feet long, thereby wresting control of the lake from the bipedal food sources that were going to develop its shores.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

I believe that more (rather than less) men in the world would have no problem “having sex” with very young girls.

DominicX's avatar

I mentioned it in the “25 Things”, but that just because something is “spiritual” and “personal” doesn’t mean it’s immune to criticism. Your “spiritual” beliefs can be stupid. If it completely clashes with scientific principles, don’t expect me to have all that much “respect” for it. I’m not going to bug you about it, but I don’t just respect everything just because they’re your “feelings”.

On that note, I think astrology, auras, the paranormal, and most alternative medicine is complete bullshit and for people who claim it’s real, it’s all in their head and they’re trying to make more out of something that isn’t.

I also don’t care if people have a non-procreative incestuous relationship between consenting adults. It’s not my business.

That enough straight people are homophobic deep down that it has caused me to believe most of them are and that it is somewhat of a natural position to have. I hate to be so cynical, but there you have it.

That being depressed is not an excuse for being a complete asshole. On that note, we overmedicate and overdiagnose mental illnesses including bipolar disorder and autism.

@papayalily & @thekoukoureport I shall hold my counsel, as requested from the OP. We don’t want an outbreak of thread wars now do we? Tedious & repetitive as that surely is. Not going to happen, from me at least.

Ron_C's avatar

@jaytkayNo questioning! No criticizing!” O.k. but it’s hard——the Beatles——really?

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@ucme The OP said we couldn’t attack or criticize. They said nothing about asking for clarification.

troubleinharlem's avatar

I’m glad they said no criticizing… otherwise @thekoukoureport and I would have a problem.

xD No, not really. I respect your opinion(s).

TexasDude's avatar

@Ron_C, I’ve listened to the Beatles a lot. I’ve been a musician for several years and the Beatles have never once given me a musical boner. In fact, I have always found them to be really bland. They must have done something right to acquire a bajillion fans, but in my mind, they are just a goofy band that did a lot of drugs and wrote a few “ok” songs, but nothing God-tier.

ragingloli's avatar

America is the 21st century Rome. A malicious empire striving for global haegemony, that bears a lot of responsibility for many of the world’s problems.
They have no idea how to make good food, cars, or real sport.
It is the only country that transitioned from barberism directly to decadence without civilisation in between.
It was also founded by traitors, that committed High Treason against the British Crown.
They have butchered the English language.

troubleinharlem's avatar

@ragingloli : I thought that was Australia that was founded by traitors…

Ron_C's avatar

@troubleinharlem Australia was populated by criminals and traitors that got caught. The U.S. was founded by people like the Puritans. Frankly I’d trade Australia. They ended up with a free country, we got the Puritan ethic and very strange laws restricting, sex, drugs, and work.

Brian1946's avatar

I usually have no attraction to skinny blondes or models in general.

jaytkay's avatar

@troubleinharlem Australia was a dumping ground for UK criminals. Not necessarily traitors. Traiitors are more like the US Confederates. Which leads into my next offensive opinion…

The US southern states should secede. We won’t stop you this time and we won’t miss you. Go. You hate America, you might as well leave.

Gay Furry Porn is the best kind of Porn. Especially if it involves tentacles.

Here’s a few more “fun” music-related ones:

People who decide what music to like based on how unpopular it is are pretentious, sorry.

Rock music is not near as great as most people think it is. A lot of it tries way too hard. It’s probably my third-favorite genre. And music with screaming in it sucks. :)

The guitar is overrated. So is Beethoven.

jaytkay's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard No rage allowed, unless it can be stated as your offensive opinion, which I am not allowed to question or criticize by the thread rules. :-)

HungryGuy's avatar

I believe that all people should be equal under the law and be able to live and interact however they choose to that is mutually consensual. However, I’ve recently discovered that this opinion is highly offensive to a subset of very vocal and militant people, and I’ve been called hateful and ignorant here on Fluther for expressing it.

Brian1946's avatar

If some jerk parks in front of my driveway, I should get to keep their car and do whatever the fuck I want with it!

TexasDude's avatar

@Michael_Huntington, sortof. I was required to take an intro to sociology class as part of the liberal arts aspect of my college. The entire class was basically a circle-jerk over Karl Marx. The professor flat out told me I should be ashamed of myself for being white. It’s odd, because one of my good friends, who is also president of the Black Student’s Association, was also in the class, and he told her she was being ridiculous. She looked completely dumbfounded.

@jaytkay, you do know that there is a loophole to that statement that could potentially cause this whole thing to turn into an exchange of thinly-veiled personal attacks. For instance, I could say that I hold the offensive opinions that people who constantly bash America are either giant hypocrites for ignoring or downplaying centuries of European and Asian tyranny, or are just following a hip trend. Or, I could say that anyone who judges an entire group of people based on the region they live in, the government they live under, the actions of their ancestors, or the way they talk or look is woefully ignorant, short-sighted, closed-minded, and outright rude.

Okay… I’ll stop now before I get in trouble or cause a giant clusterfuck to arise.

Brian1946's avatar

I think people who think that corporate profits are more important than environmental health should be evicted from this planet and moved to another planet of their choice, except for my beloved Mars.

I think people who don’t want associate with people because they are different physically, mentally, and status wise, will never know true beauty.

MyNewtBoobs's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard Yeah, I had to hold back on one of those. So far, I’m pretty proud of myself for doing so (how likely I am to retaliate is rather directly tied to how bored I am.)

jaytkay's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard @jaytkay, you do know that there is a loophole to that statement that could potentially cause this whole thing to turn into an exchange of thinly-veiled personal attacks

Yes, but I am also generally happily surprised at the civility of Fluther. Which will sadly tone down this thread a bit, but I’m trying to make things a little less comfortable.

P.S.
I hate your new avatar.

Jeruba's avatar

If I could have someone to do the menial tasks in my life—a servant, a slave, a wife (of either sex)—we’d both be better off. I’d be free to do the brain work that would support us both instead of wasting my valuable time on laundry and vacuuming.

DominicX's avatar

I’m just going to come out and say it: people who pronounce “poinsettia” like “pointsetta”, say “could care less”, say “could of”, or say “irregardless” are fucking stupid and I will think less of them for it. I don’t care if “language changes”, these I have no patience for. :)

TexasDude's avatar

@jaytkay, hey there broski, you just broke your own rule. You should have worded it like “I think that people who take artsy-fartsy pictures of themselves in mirrors made out of recycled tires in local indie home decor shops are pretentious assholes and are generally unappealing to look at.”

I also believe that chihuahuas are minions of Satan, just like Catholics.~

The universe, earth, planets, etc. could not have just happened. It’s far too precise and complex.
People with a poor vocabulary and who are not at least moderately articulate are automatically characterized as dumb and unattractive in my brain.
Straight men with feminine mannerisms turn my stomach. Bisexual men sometimes fall into that category.
There is no such thing as a mistake. There’s negligence and things of that nature, but no mistakes.
Penises smaller than seven inches are unattractive.
Doing certain things, acting a certain way, believing certain things, etc. simply because that’s all you know or that’s how you were raised is no excuse.
Prescription drugs are pushed by people who want to make money off of them. They are not good for you. They cause more harm than good. Most health issues can be resolved/avoided with a healthy lifestyle.
Herbs, extracts, oils, foods, etc. trump 95% of popular beauty products. People who buy those products from the store are ignorant.

Goddammit! I think fluffy bunnies are so fuckin’ sweet.

The past few posts are hilarious. Unfortunately, I’m a free-speech fanatic, and very little offends me :-/

ragingloli's avatar

I also think that Sarcasm must have slept with the site owners to become a mod.

I think less of people who don’t believe in evolution.

Capital punishment should be used all over the world and more often. No lethal injections or electric chairs, something even more torturous!

thekoukoureport's avatar

really someone moderated my post?

thekoukoureport's avatar

hey @manradpivo I like to use fluffy bunnies as fuck toys… too much?

thekoukoureport's avatar

how does a question that ask to offend get moderated. Should we just offend but not too bad? I don’t understand.

free_fallin's avatar

I spend my days believing in the goodness of humanity and teaching others to see it as well. None of you offended me. I find most of what was said to be pathetic. Isn’t there enough around us that is offensive? Some of you are just being offensive for the sake of being offensive and that may very well be the most pathetic thing I have ever seen on this site.

I don’t have an offensive opinion though perhaps to most of you my opinion that there is more good in people and the world than you seem to see might be considered offensive to the most cynical people. Freedom of Speech is a bitch and a privilege. Don’t mistake hatred for honesty.

@judochop I wish I could give you a thousand GA’s.

Mamradpivo's avatar

Hey @thekoukoureport Good for you. Fluffy bunnies are great. I would worry about the lint, but that’s just me.

I would like to agree with Sarcasm but I may make his list. Still almost offensive.

thekoukoureport's avatar

hey @free_fallin I wanna gro up to be just like you. Lighten up sunshine this is SUPPOSED to offend. But I guess on your high altar you don’t get the jist of the string.

@Sarcasm I wouldn’t limit it at “certain people”. Human’s have caused way too much death and destruction, the earth would be much better off without them. Yep.

That breeding isn’t a right so much as an immediate responsibility. The rest of society shouldn’t have to pay for other people’s kids’ upbringings aside from emergency situations. Social welfare as an entitlement makes me feel taken advantage of.

Jeruba's avatar

I beg your pardon, @jaytkay. I misunderstood the intent of the question. I thought it was to give voice to private opinions that others might find offensive and not to deliberately insult one another. I have no desire to offer insults to other participants on this list, not even those who can’t tell the difference between pedantry and a request for clarification of meaning.

Whitsoxdude's avatar

My opinion is that this discussion reminds me of Yahoo Answers.

DominicX's avatar

It’s funny how we all have had these opinions all along, no matter how “nice” we seem, but when we finally let them out, it suddenly appears ugly and nasty. Just goes to show you that everyone has a harsh side. And how much that harsh side is concealed for the sake of being “tolerant”, “polite”, “nice”, etc.

There definitely seems to be such a thing as “too honest”.

thekoukoureport's avatar

sorry @Jeruba I know I am the offensive one here. But most of these answers are not truth, they are thought out calculated answers to seem intellegent. If you are going to answer at least be honest. thats all. None of these opinions are mine but when I read all this crap I get offended at the PC world we are here and not truly honest. If I offended anyone I am sorry and will be leaving for the night so as to not offend anyone else.

Maybe I got carried away and I apoligize. Really just trying to be funny.
I know grow up.

I believe convicted and proven beyond doubt rapists and child molesters should be quickly executed and left to be a burden on the rest of society. Some people believe out of sight and out of mind is good enough and they’re willing to pay for it but I’m not. I also don’t believe they should be tortured even though they are warped and dangerous, I’m all for volunteering to fire off a few bullets or install guillotines as a social contribution in lieu of some tax money.

@Jeruba, I don’t see what is offensive by wanting a wife(either sex, but no sex), or servant to do everything for me, while I do the thinking….etc. I have often said that very thing! And that I was suppose to have an entourage, but something went seriously wrong in the universe!

Any way, some would find it offensive that I think pot and prostitution should be legalized. I don’t believe that prohibition works. They’re here to stay. I say, legalize ‘em and clean ‘em up, regulate ‘em, and less likely to be criminalized and exploitive, like alcohol was, and TAX ‘em to gain the revenue to put back into improving schools, scholarships, education, infrastructure etc.

I know this is terrible, but in the interest of honesty…

I hold a persistent opinion that I’m smarter than 99% of the people I know in ‘real’ life. Not here, mind you. You folks routinely humble me. I feel like most of the people I come into contact with just aren’t terribly bright, and aren’t very interested in the wider world. I genuinely try not to hold it against anyone… I recognize that it’s my problem, not theirs. Mostly, I manage to keep it to myself, but it bothers me anyway. It’s smug and obnoxious to feel superior, and I hate that I feel that way. It’s probably my biggest fault.

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

@augustlan Maybe you should seek more intelligent circles to mix in.

Facade's avatar

@augustlan Don’t beat yourself up so much.

augustlan's avatar

@FireMadeFlesh What do you think I’m doing here? :p

The thing is, I don’t travel in very academic circles. I never went to college, mostly worked for small service industry companies, then became a stay-at-home mom. That’s not to say that I don’t like the people I know… I do. But there are only a very few that I can hold an in depth conversation with. Happily, I’m married to one of them, and gave birth to a few others. :)

@Facade Thanks, girlie.

Blackberry's avatar

Ok I’m done reading, good thread, everyone. I’m surprised and happy you all actually had the discipline to refrain from turning this into a 500 answer flame thread : ) Now let’s all go get some ginger snaps

jaytkay's avatar

@Jeruba beg your pardon, @jaytkay. I misunderstood the intent of the question. I thought it was to give voice to private opinions that others might find offensive and not to deliberately insult one another

Actually, you understood the intent correctly.

If I came off as personally insulting, my apologies for overestimating my ability to convey kidding and teasing in writing. Something that is obvious hyperbole or ribbing in person can look serious and mean-spirited in writing.

Regarding the intent of the question – I think most of us are more prejudiced than we generally acknowledge. Religion, race, class, region, education, appearance, language, popular culture – there are endless ways we set ourselves apart and make ourselves feel we are in the superior position.

And that’s not always wrong. To pick obvious examples, you aren’t going to persuade me that my moral values are only as good as those of Klansmen, the Taliban or gang members who use neighborhoods in my own city as shooting galleries.

Now I’m not worried about offending the Klan. But my view of religion stated here would hurt the feelings of some my friends at the church-sponsored charity where I volunteer weekly. As someone who enjoys civilization, I happily leave those views unsaid at the church, nobody there is condemning me to hell and we enjoy each others’ company and we do a little good for our community.

When I wrote the question, I didn’t have lofty thoughts, just a vague idea of safely airing some rude ideas which we often pretend don’t exist in our own heads.

I find plenty of offensive speech in the typical Fluther political thread, but I found this thread to be surprisingly not horrible. In an admittedly twisted way, this was an attempt to have a civil discussion – no arguing, no defending, no finger-pointing.Some people found it appalling, I guess our tolerance for a little mayhem varies. It wasn’t perfect but I think people generally were pretty well-behaved.

ragingloli's avatar

That every supporter of the death penalty should be executed, so they can experience what they support. And for my personal amusement.

HungryGuy's avatar

Okay, speaking of the death penalty… You want a truly offensive opinion? I mean a real opinion, and not a joke one? Well, here goes: I’m opposed to the death penalty, but I believe that anyone convicted of a crime that would otherwise warrant the death penalty be sold as a slave at government auction to pay back the victims or victim’s estate. How’s that for offensive :-)

Michael_Huntington's avatar

I think NYC has the best pizza.
Sorry Chicago, but if I want cake, then I’ll buy one, damn it :(

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

I also think a lot of teenagers and kids these days are mannerless, disrespectful, poorly educated, and obnoxious.

Blackberry's avatar

@Michael_Huntington I don’t even eat chain restaurant pizza anymore after coming to the NE. We didn’t have stuff like white pizza in Oregon lol.

ragingloli's avatar

@MRSHINYSHOES
That is not really offensive. It is just what every adult during the entire history of humanity believed.

“Our youth now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love to chatter in places of exercise. Children are tyrants, not the servants of the household. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”- Sokrates

HungryGuy's avatar

@Michael_Huntington – That’s not an offensive opinion. That’s true :-)

jaytkay's avatar

I’m not a fan of Chicago pizza, but hotdogs are much, much better here than anywhere else.

Though I do like a hotdog and papaya when in NYC

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

@ragingloli Okay, correction—-“a lot of WHITE boys are obnoxious, lazy, mannerless, and stupid.” (apologies to Ben_Dover ......wink!) Lol.

mammal's avatar

i find the war in Iraq and Afghanistan gravely offensive.

The glossy way the media skips over the atrocious suffering of both parties, the positive, upbeat coverage of young IED victims, amputees, maimed and disfigured, who will spend the rest of their days at psychological war with themselves, whilst children morbidly stare and beautiful women politely ignore them….. makes me fucking retch.

But i guess what i find particularly offensive is that not one person in this thread, and it’s a pretty long thread, mentioned one fucking thing, even remotely alluding to this man made, manufactured tragedy, deliberately prosecuted with lies and screwy mission objectives.

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

@mammal I don’t think your opinion is truly offensive, and that is probably why no one has yet mentioned it.

augustlan's avatar

@mammal I agree with @FireMadeFlesh. That’s not an offensive opinion. War itself is offensive to me.

mammal's avatar

@augustlan @FireMadeFlesh i see, perhaps i misunderstood the theme, fair enough, i was going to go into, something along the lines of i find it offensive how indifferent people on here seem to have become to the various middle eastern conflicts, yet how they fight like Alley Cats over perceived homophobia or pro-religious positions. i find that offensive.

jaytkay's avatar

@mammal I can redeem your comment about the wars by saying lots of people would be offended and say you don’t support the troops, you hate America, etc.

I’m not one of those people, but they are out there.

DeanV's avatar

Ringo Starr was a better drummer than John Bonham and that electronic music has more depth, soul, and is more revolutionary than any other genre of music.

jaytkay's avatar

electronica? ewwwww, I AM offended.

GA anyway, Ringo is extremely under-rated

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

@dverhey That is certainly controversial – electronic is shallow and soulless compared to songs like this.
Disclaimer: I don’t necessarily agree with the ideas expressed in this song, I just like the music.

Fred931's avatar

@dverhey I got the revolutionary bit, but I think any kind of music can be as deep or soulful as any other and that those characteristics depend more on the creation of the song rather than what it’s created with.

DeanV's avatar

@Fred931 @FireMadeFlesh @jaytkay I just ask that you don’t put all electronic music in the category of Sandstorm.

There’s good electronic music as well.

Blackberry's avatar

@dverhey I agree wholeheartedly, and would even go further and say that the whole general genre of chill out lounge to electronica…pretty much electronic music without words, is as you described it. I feel like this range of music is more open to personal interpretation because its sound and lack of words.

MissAnthrope's avatar

Why the hating? There is some really fantastic, emotional, deep, and soulful electronica. It’s not all of the ‘untz untz untz untz untz’ variety. I can even think of a few trance/dance tracks that are way more emotionally expressive than I’d expect.

Offensive opinion? I can’t say it, it’s too offensive, I think. It’s racist and would get me in trouble. What’s all this talk about racism being only about skin color, if I got a tan it wouldn’t make me a better dancer. That’s the best I can do. I study sociology, so I’m interested if not fascinated with race. But I’m not really a racist, just kinda racial.

jaytkay's avatar

@truecomedian Offensive opinion? I can’t say it, it’s too offensive

That was my original intent – go ahead and say something which you normally suppress.

The thread sprayed out in several other directions, but that was my original idea.

The US could do so many great things if it wasn’t for these old timers who think we still live in the 1900s. Move on people!! Times are changing.. we all need to be a little more open minded!!!
