In my pockets: two separate wadded-up $1 bills and $4.34 in loose change. I have a habit of just stuffing the change from a transaction into my pocket and sorting it out later.
If I were to go through all the compartments of my purse, I would probably find between $400 and $500 in there. Some of it has been there for a really long time. Right in the active, accessible part, there’s about $26 plus a wadded-up $100 bill.
I don’t have any plans for any of it beyond the occasional drugstore or grocery store purchase. My husband does the main grocery shopping. I don’t use much cash, but I do believe in having enough on hand so that if I suddenly lost access to funds that depend on electricity and software, I’d have a little working margin. That habit probably grew out of being so completely broke for so long that now I just want to keep enough within reach to live on for a little while in case of some catastrophe.
