Way back when I was working on computers that were as big as refrigerators, with a row of disk drives the size of washing machines, there was a large, prominent red button that was labeled “Emergency Use Only.”
I eyed that button for months before finally asking the service rep what kind of an emergency would call for use of the button and what the button would do. He said to use it if there was a fire or other disaster in the computer room, and that it would cause a guillotine-like blade to come down and sever all the wires, to protect the CPU and the storage devices from being wiped out by electrical zaps (or words to that effect).
I did order a cover for that button—a small plastic hood that could be removed easily—just so no wayward fingers (such as my own) would be too tempted by curiosity.
