Um. It was a gold fish for my grandson. It did not have a name.

My sister named one of our betas Cat. And wanted to name our cat Mouse.

Well. Most of my current fish, are very small. I call most of them by group names. Well. Team names. My Pistons, are blue and red. My Gamecocks are scarlet. My Clemson guys, are orange, and clear. Mr Raiders, are black and white/clear. My catfish is named Sponge Bob, because he lives/hides in a replica Sponge Bob house.

I had Killa Mike, and Jr. Mafia. They were arrested for multiple murders, and taken to jail (back to the pet store.)

My biggest Gamecock, is Peter. My smallest is Legless, as he has a birth defect, and only has his first two sets of fins. I’m very protective of him, because he can’t swim as fast.

I had a lot of snails, but Killa Mike, and Jr systematically killed them all…. That’s when I got the armored catfish. Sponge Bob is AMAZING. He has armor plating, and 5 different big spines. But… He’s always scared, and I almost never see him…

Wanda, is one of the sweetest animals, I’ve ever known. She has a heart of pure gold, and has been helpful raising kittens, and other dogs, for almost 13 years. Go Pitt Bulls!!!

@rebbel . What do your fish’s names mean? Are they meaningless, like American names, or do they have a deeper meaning? Why name them that?

My son won a goldfish at a school fair when he was 12. It lived for 10 years. He named it Fred.

I had one long ago I named only because it had such a distinctive marking. It was all gold, with a thin black line over its upper lip. It looked like the thin Spanish moustache, so I named it piscado.

My fish were not personified and they died so quickly, I gave up the aquarium. I have the same problem with plants.

Petunia. She was a beta fish and we made up a song for her:

It’s in the freezer and is called haddock.

I’ve never had a pet fish, but if I did it’d be named “Lieutenant Shiny Sides” :)

I have gold fish in my pond and I have given the really distinctive ones names. Goliath is the largest. Dottie is white with a red dot. Mullet has a black stripe down his back. Blackie is all black. Whitey is all white. Stripey is orange and white.
I add 12 fish to the pond once or twice a year so there are a range of sizes.

~I put tiny name tags on their dorsal fins so they all know each other. “Hi. I’m Nemo.” “Hi Nemo!”

Before I die, I want to meet ^ you in person, just once.

In high school Marine Biology class I had a tank inhabited by such denizens of the deep with names like Captain Killifish, Lieutenant Mojarra, Spotty, a oyster named Spock and the starfish Enterprise. There were several other fish in the tank but I just called them redshirts.

The Beta fish was named Alpha.
