The peg legs don’t seem to be able to hold much weight. The nightstand is attractive but not very durable. I would like ones that are flush to the floor and can hold more weight.

I like the colour of the wood a lot, but I also immediately thought of how much dust would gather in the two open parts.

Too big. I think of a night stand being big enough to hold a lamp and a book and maybe a drawer or two under it.

What’s the function of the peculiar space on the left? You’re certain they’re nightstands?

Looks like a computer stand. But I say “nay” in any case. I think it looks like Motel 6 furniture from the 1970s. (Hope you didn’t make them.)

@stanleybmanly Yes, they are. It seems those compartments are for books, as shown in other pictures on their site. Those spaces have me thinking too because they are so peculiar as you say. Do they look cheap? (They are on sale for $180 and I need two.) Are they too boxy? I can’t seem to like any others, cheaper or more expensive…aargh!

@janbb No, I did not. Yes, 1970s is accurate. It’s called Mid century modern style furniture. Oh boy…I need to decide ASAP to get the 4th of July sales.

This is more what I think about when you talk about a night stand. This is considered mid century modern.

The question about looking cheap. Have you read any description of the wood or construction? I would assume they are pressed wood or fiberboard with possibly laminated surfaces. Would you care?

^ I don’t care…I’m going more for functionality, look and price rather than durability. I am very indecisive for this sort of thing.

In that case, go for what you like. You have to live with it, and only you know what your needs for a nightstand are.

I’m with @chyna. Mine is basically a square foot faux cherry table. Those just look so big to me, you must have a ton of room.

If I liked it that much, I wouldn’t be asking for opinions. I clearly stated I was undecided. The question here is not if I need it or not. It is evident I do, I just wanted to hear what people thought. Thought this was general, not social.

@KNOWITALL Yes, they are big and I have enough space, so size is not a problem. In general, I don’t like small nightstands. I like to have space for a couple of books, charge my phone, my alarm clock, a picture frame, water, my glasses. I am just having a hard time finding something that I really, really like. Those caught my eye at first sight, but still not sure.

I like the one in @chyna ‘s link better. It’s solid wood and has more style, I think.

^ Sure…that one is a cute little nightstand and cheapper too! But, that size doesn’t go with my king-size bed :(

They look very large, are they more than 3 feet across? Are they the same height as your bed?

I actually like the open horizontal shelf at the top, I think it’s very practical, but the open vertical space I can’t imagine what you would put in there?

It’s not quite my taste, but my sister kept some of our grandparents’ pieces of furniture from a similar style and it’s very nice in her apartment. I like how her place is kind of eclectic.

I missed that link originally. Funny, I was thinking the horizontal shelf would be an easy place to put a book right before you fall asleep at night or an iPad. I liked that you could keep that stuff off of the top of the nightstand, and not have to pull open a drawer.

It does seem tall, I like my night stand level with the top of my mattress or a little lower, but I don’t know how high your mattress is. My bed is practically on the floor, it’s a platform.

It doesn’t matter what anyone here thinks. If you like them get them.

^ I know you mean well, and of course, I will do what I want at the end of the day. But the fact is, I wanted other people’s opinion to help me confirm mine and help me make my mind up about the night stands. No one here is telling me not to get them. In general, I consider other people’s opinion in everything I do. For instance, when a lot of people have the same opinion about something, there is often some truth there and it should be taken into consideration.

^^I know you know. Obviously, everyone knows they can do what they want. I guess I shouldn’t have written my last sentence. Apologies if it sounded bad in some way. I shouldn’t state the obvious. It was more like a saying; just something people say without thinking much.

I usually ask opinions also, but I’m trying to do it less often now. Other people’s opinions have screwed me up a lot the last few years on things much bigger than a nightstand. Partly, because I was asking the wrong people, but mostly because I didn’t do what I wanted to do.

I don’t like the color, the drawer handles, or that it has legs. The size is nice, because I’m all for more storage!

I agree that they look cheap. I would rather have smaller, classier ones and a separate bookcase. The ones you’ve shared a picture of look to me like Dollar Store flat-box institution pieces.

I think you couldd do better for less expense at Target. I bought some real wood, well made, nightstands at Target a few years ago for about a third the price of the “sale” you are talking about.

@zenvelo Side comment. Yes, I’ve been surprised at the quality and affordability of some of the furniture at Target.

@JLeslie No apology necessary. I understood exactly what you wanted to say, and I appreciate it. In my case, I usually want to hear what others have to say, even if I don’t agree with them. When I specifically ask for opinions it’s because I am confused in my own mind about something and need other people’s input to help me clarify. However, when I am sure about what I want to do, I don’t ask for opinions, as a matter of fact, I do not want to hear opinions because my mind is already made up and it is not going to make much difference. In a trivial thing like a nightstand, I tend to really consider what the majority have to say. Like in this case, I am most likely not going to get this nightstand because most people did not have favorable comments and why would I disregard their opinions if I myself wasn’t really sure to begin with? But, when it comes to other more important stuff, I am less prone to act based on other people’s opinion and trust mine more. So, yeah, I draw a line between a nightstand and a life issue.

Those aren’t nightstands. Those are TV / media units. Large and dark and clunky. Far too large for a bedside space.

@zenvelo Target is always one of my go-to places for most things, I love it. But, this time, I have checked their site and I can’t find anything that I think would go with my bed in terms of color and size. What should have been a fun easy purchase, has turned into an issue now. I wanted to take the 4th of July sales, but I might have to give it up and start all over again. Back to square one…aargh!

@sorry Yes, they are big (25“wide x 16“deep x 26“high), but I have explained above that I can’t have a small (17.5“wide x 14.25“deep x 24.5“high) because of the size of my bed and all the stuff that I put on it. As a matter of fact, the ones I have now are from my mother-in-law’s old house and are way too small. As far as looking as media units, these could not hold a TV or a CPU.

If it’s cheap and you like the style you could always paint it a lighter color and brighten it up, but it sounds like you already decided to pass anyway.

As far as Target, the nightstands there tend to be small, I have some from Target.

If you like a large night stand you might find a small dresser that works? Just another idea while you’re searching. My MIL’s nightstands look like small dressers to me they are so large. Her entire bedroom set is very oversized.

I like dark wood: mahogany, chestnut, dark walnut, etc.
The color of my dresser is called espresso.

I like the clean lines and the general aesthetic, but I’m not crazy about the color myself. I prefer lighter woods, or when there’s darker woods, I like them broken up with contrasting light woods (e.g. the classic combo of black walnut and maple). Also I’m not keen on the upper opening. It looks like a missed opportunity. It is perhaps a bit too boxy as well. Boxes can be good, but if they’re broken up more.

I find this one to be closer to my style. It’s boxy in a good way, clean lines, but it’s got some personality, organic shapes and contrast in colors.

I was looking at my dressers and nightstands and almost all of the pieces have legs, and a lot of people here stated they don’t like legs, I found that interesting. I like furniture both ways. I’ve even considered doing kitchen cabinets with legs at one point, but decided against it. The problem (minor) with legs is needing to sweep under the furniture.
