When cucumbers get old, the seeds get tough and sour.

People with servants might indulge in such excesses. And places catering to that class might demonstrate their loftiness through the superficial display of pumped up extravagance.

The seeds are the BEST part of the cucumber!!!

I agree with @LadyMarissa they ARE the best part! Must be the same people that take the seeds out of tomatoes also.

People cut out the seeds because they lack and good taste and judgement. Also, cucumbers are melons—I only recently found that out.

@RayaHope I also LOVE tomato seeds; however, they can cause Diverticulitis in some people & they remove them for their health. People who have had it says the it is unbearably painful & IF you have it once, the chances are that it will return…NOBODY wants it more than once!!!

^^ Oh gosh that almost sounds like having your period all the time..ewww those poor people :(

When you make potato salad, the inner part of the cucumber would make the salad too watery, so you scrape it out.

Dang, just like old people…

It’s the seeds that make you burp cucumber for hours after they are eaten.

LadyMarissa's avatar

That’s the BEST part of eating them…they are the gift that keeps on giving!!!

The nerve of those who cut out the best part. It is the very reason I do not like English cucumbers.

Some people avoid seeds in general. Either they don’t like them or they think they should avoid them for medical reasons.

The seeds are more watery or mushy in a regular cucumber, and some people might not like the texture. An English cucumber tends to be firmer all the way through. I have no idea if English cucumbers are called the same outside of the US. I prefer English cucumbers, but will eat any variety.

Many older people don’t eat anything with seeds due to colon issues. I’ve never removed seeds from anything other than peaches, apples, bell peppers. I don’t eat pumpkins and large varieties of squash, but if I did, I would remove those big ugly seeds.

@JLeslie In England they’re called “cucumbers.” I prefer them too.

^^Lol. That makes sense. :)

I would guess that most of the people who remove the seeds are doing it to remove the extra moisture (like @ragingloli mentioned) or want consistent texture (like cucumber sandwiches).

I know a lot of people remove tomato seeds because they’re a nightshade. Don’t think a cucumber is a nightshade. But I do think their seeds can still cause some digestive issues.

That’s me. Seeds are good, I enjoy whole cucumber in sandwiches, in vinegar with onions, etc.

But I also like to make crunchy tzatziki without seeds.

1) Peel and halve the cucumbers, scoop out seeds
2) Cut into crescents about 10mm (3/8”) thick
3) Put the crescents into a colander, mix with a little salt
4) Place the colander into a bigger bowl, weight the cucumber with plastic bag(s) of water to press out moisture for 30–60 minutes
5) Mix cucumbers with plain yogurt, lemon and garlic
6) Mmmmmmmm

Mmm…sounds delicious.

I cut out the seeds and eat them first…lov’em! And when I have the little ‘tommy-toes’, I bite a tiny piece out of the meat, then suck the seeds out. I know…weird.

RayaHope's avatar

^^ tommy-toes?

raum's avatar

@RayaHope Tomatoes.

I love Tommy Toes on Toest! :p

smudges's avatar

Itty bitty tomatoes…cherry or grape tomatoes. This may be TMI, but I’d suck out the seeds and my ex would eat the rest. That sounds kinda kinky. LOL Never had tommy-toes on toest!
