What words that go with your profession are you just tired of?

“Great Question” (4points)

Like, say, you’re a hair stylist and you’re sick of hearing and saying the word “shampoo”; or you’re a doctor who hopes never to have to see or say the word “polyp” again; or you’re a writer who is mortally weary of the word “draft.”

Is there any term you meet constantly in your work that you wish you could just purge from the language?

Parts. We deal in “parts”. Was sick of that word day one.

When I was a LEO, I worked at large music/entertainment venues, and even smaller bars sometimes.
I absolutely hate the word “bouncer.”
Worse. I sometimes have to use it to make it simpler for people to understand what that part of my law enforcement experience was like…

I just got fed up at my job and walked out…decided to move into retirement a couple years early. Thankfully I can. I got fed up because of the word “e-mail”.

The lab boy. Dracula. Blood sucker. Draw labs (I don’t “draw labs” I draw blood).

No. My career and profession have fed me and allowed me to raise offspring.
Nothing to be tired of. I am grateful for it.

Work Ahead is the constant phrase in my job, and no one listens or cares. Over it after 20 plus years.

“Lawn mower.” The man, not the machine. I have been asked too many times to change my schedule to accommodate somebody’s lawn mower guy, and I usually end up being the loser.

“Banker’s hours.” I’m there from 8:30AM to 4:45PM (sometimes a little later depending on closing balancing) four days a week, and Fridays until 5:15. There are banks that are open until 6:00 or 7:00PM on Fridays in this market. My dad was a banker in the 70’s and 80’s and was generally at work by 7:30AM.

I can’t think of a single one.

“Geek.” I’m an engineer. Not all engineers are geeks. Not all geeks are engineers. But if you had to bet money…
