Well if you want silver, then you tell them thats what you want. If you want to cancel it all the way, then thats what you tell them.

It means that you don’t go online to play games, you just play on your console without an Internet connection.

There are two levels of xbox live, Silver and Gold. Silver is free, and allows you to purchase downloads etc. The thing you pay for, to play games and such, is Gold. If you cancel now, you will just go down to Silver, which means you will keep your profile info in case you ever want to restart it, but you don’t have to pay and don’t get access to gaming, free content, and other stuff. Also, you don’t need to call, just go to their website, sign in, and cancel your account.

What an odd question; are you sure that it’s worded correctly? If I were talking about it, I’d know what I meant. But since you’re talking about me talking about it and wondering what they mean… my head hurts. (I’m not laying that on you; my head hurts anyway, but this isn’t helping.)

I once had to cancel my xbox live subscription for a month or two and they simply demote your account to ‘silver’ after the last month you’ve paid for ends which means you have access to limited online material such as demo downloads but cannot play online or participate in an array of “gold only” activities.
Additionally i’m not certain of how difficult it is in the US (I live in the UK) but I had to cancel my subscription by calling Microsoft and requesting it.

I only had silver then purchased gold once more upon getting a job; it’s impossible to dispose of xbox live entirely as far as I am aware. Why would you wish to do so anyway may I inquire? If you’re tired of having people who are online bother you then I would suggest that you simply set xbox live to not sign you in automatically. Alternatively, if you’re afraid that having the ability to sign up for gold constantly at your disposal will encourage you to spend money (perhaps you’re on a tight budget?) then you could make personal arrangements with Microsoft or your bank to disallow such payments.
